the portrayal of the red planet in science fiction - and in media at large - has always fascinated me. although in reality it seems like it'd be a pretty bleak place, that hasn't stopped artists from conjuring all sorts of wild imagery surrounding it. as the next most earthlike planet in the solar system, it serves as a bit of a blank canvas onto which we paint our most outlandish fantasies: vividly colored creatures with all manner of tentacles and eyestalks, dazzling sunsets over impossible landscapes, and so forth.
this project is an homage to the whimsy of those visions, and to some of the media that was formative to my life as an artist - bill watterson's 'calvin and hobbes,' apogee's 'commander keen' series, etc. it's a little study of a world far removed from reality, but one that lives in our collective consciousness.
~AT LONG LAST~ A DESKPOP classic RETURNS from what I definitely thought was the grave -and it may have been- with an amazing follow-up of thematically-rich tunes and SPOOKTACULAR BANGERS alike.
BOO! out of 10 in the best way. (*, ,*) Styler Mintgomery
